When The Herd opened on October 17, 2025, it didn’t just enter Nollywood; it stormed it. Directed by Daniel Etim‑Effiong (his first time behind the camera), the movie takes what should be a joyous wedding and twists it into a fight for survival. The bride, the groom, family and friends; they get caught in an ambush by men posing as cattle herders. As the facade of celebration crumbles, secrets unravel, loyalties are tested, and every choice feels like a life-or-death gamble.
The cast is stacked: Kunle Remi, Genoveva Umeh, Deyemi Okanlawon, Mercy Aigbe, Tina Mba, Norbert Young; names you recognise, delivering performances that carry weight. The buzz was real: in 10 days, The Herd grossed over ₦80 million, climbing fast at the box office.

Step into 1980s Ibadan. Odun (Femi Branch) is a wealthy, lonely, respected farmer who marries a young woman, Funmi (Gbubemi Ejeye). But Funmi’s heart isn’t in it. She finds herself drawn to Odun’s nephew (Tobi Bakre). The marriage, intended as solace, becomes a battleground of resentment, betrayal, and supernatural undertones.
The cast includes Mercy Aigbe, Wumi Toriola, and Efe Irele, solid names bringing depth to their roles. Audiences and critics praised the film’s mood, its visuals, and the emotional weight in quiet moments. Some felt the storyline was familiar, but most agreed it’s beautifully executed.

Directors Akay Mason and producers Nora Awolowo assembled a cast that includes Bukky Wright, Lateef Adedimeji, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Bakre, Omowunmi Dada, Mike Afolarin, and more.
Critic Tosin Omowole described it as “easy to watch, well-paced and technically beautiful,” noting the standout performance of Lateef Adedimeji’s character Oshisco and how the film handles grief, betrayal and class. Some scenes, like when Fikayo and Venita’s lives cross, are emotionally heavy and hard to shake off.
Why it deserves your time:
