Iyabo Ojo (born Alice Iyabo Ogunro on December 21, 1977) is a celebrated Nigerian actress, film producer, and director who commands significant influence in the Nollywood industry. She hails from Lagos State, although her father’s roots go back to Abeokuta in Ogun State. Iyabo is the youngest of three siblings and grew up in a household that encouraged both academic and creative pursuits.
She studied at National College, Gbagada, Lagos, and later earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Estate Management from Lagos State Polytechnic. Her acting journey began in 1998 when she joined the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) with help from established colleagues. Her debut film was Satanic (in English), and she later broke into Yoruba-language cinema by starring in Baba Darijinwon in 2002.
By 2004, Iyabo transitioned into film production, launching her first film, Bolutife. Over the years, she has produced and acted in many works—some of her notable ones include Silence, Arinzo, Ololufe, Bofeboko, and Esan. She is known not only for her acting chops but also for her commitment to telling stories that resonate with Nigerian audiences, especially through the lens of women’s experiences and social issues. Beyond film, Iyabo has ventured into entrepreneurship and advocacy, solidifying her role as a cultural figure in Nigeria.
On the personal front, Iyabo married in 1999 and had two children—Felix and Priscilla Ajoke Ojo—but later got divorced. She has often spoken publicly about her journey as a single mother and the complexities of managing personal life and a high‑profile career.
In recent years, she’s remained relevant, producing content, leveraging social media, engaging in activism, and navigating public controversies (including tax disputes) with boldness. Her longevity in Nollywood, paired with business ventures, gives her a multifaceted presence in Nigeria’s entertainment landscape.
