Marvel Studios has just released a brand-new trailer for its upcoming blockbuster, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, offering fans their best look yet at the long-awaited debut of Marvel’s First Family in the MCU. The highly anticipated film hits theatres on July 25.
Directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), First Steps is set in a visually bold, retro-futuristic 1960s timeline—blending the flair of The Incredibles with the post-apocalyptic style of Fallout. The story follows four astronauts-turned-superheroes who gain extraordinary powers after a cosmic mission gone wrong. But their origin story takes a sharp turn when they become Earth’s last hope against Galactus, the planet-devouring cosmic entity.
The cast features top-tier talent, including
Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic
Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman
Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing
Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch
They’re joined by a powerful supporting cast including Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles in undisclosed roles. Joseph Quinn also recently confirmed the appearance of classic Marvel villain Mole Man, signalling a deeper dive into the team's early comic roots.
The official synopsis from Marvel Studios teases the emotional and cosmic scale of the story:
“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm — as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, the Silver Surfer. As the stakes rise, the battle becomes deeply personal.”
While The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces a new era for the MCU, it also raises questions about the fate of this universe, especially with the core cast confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Could this stylish, alternate timeline be a one-and-done, or will it have a greater ripple across the multiverse?
With its star-studded cast, fresh visual tone, and high-stakes cosmic drama, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is shaping up to be a pivotal chapter in Marvel’s evolving cinematic universe. Fans can catch the film in theatres starting July 25, 2025.
