It's that time of the year to celebrate excellence in African film and television. The AMVCA has unveiled its list of top-performing actors, films, and series across various categories, recognising those who have made a significant impact. Seven Doors secured 11 nominations among the standout nominees, including Best Indigenous Language Film, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.
Seven Doors is a Nigerian drama limited series created by Femi Adebayo, exclusively streaming on Netflix. Set in Ilara, Ondo State, the series explores 18th-19th-century Nigeria and serves as a double-role debut for Femi Adebayo, who is the front producer and leading actor.
The series features a king who was brought to his knees by the sins of his ancestors and was forced to face trials and tribulations to be the hero his people needed. Fans praised each actor and actress for their spontaneity and excellent acting in the series, hence gaining widespread attention and many nominations for each performance and also for the collective performance.
The ensemble cast includes popular actors such as Femi Adebayo, Chioma Chukwuka, Kunle Afolayan, Taiwo Hassan, Jide Kosoko, Muyiwa Ademola, and many more.
Following the nominations, fans flooded Adebayo’s social media pages with congratulatory messages, with many predicting that Seven Doors could win at least seven or eight of its eleven nominations.
With stiff competition from other highly acclaimed films such as Anikulapo, Lisabi: The Uprising, and Mai Martaba, the race for the AMVCA awards is heating up. Fans can cast their votes on the AMVCA website before the deadline on May 4, 2025.
