In a blockbuster announcement, Tom Holland is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, joining Matt Damon in a highly secretive venture already generating buzz. The project, which Nolan wrote and will direct, will be released on July 17, 2026, with Universal Pictures distributing it.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, sources indicate the film is not set in the present day, although it’s unclear if the story unfolds in the past or the future. What is certain, however, is that Nolan will once again collaborate with his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner.
This new film marks another chapter in Nolan's relationship with Universal, which began with the critically acclaimed Oppenheimer. That film earned Nolan his first Oscar wins—taking home both Best Director and Best Picture—and grossed an impressive $976 million globally. The success of Oppenheimer solidified Nolan’s bond with Universal after his well-publicized split from Warner Bros. in 2020.
Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal acquired in an open auction, Nolan's latest project was handed directly to the studio, underscoring their ongoing collaboration. Damon is a familiar face in Nolan's ensemble cast. He previously worked with the director on Oppenheimer and 2014's Interstellar. However, this new venture will mark Holland's first time working with the acclaimed filmmaker.
Holland’s involvement in the project may come with some significant scheduling challenges. According to insiders, the actor will be balancing his work on Nolan’s film alongside commitments to Spider-Man 4 and the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Due to production delays, Holland’s Spider-Man co-star Zendaya will now be filming Dune 3 in early 2026 rather than next year.
