After nearly 20 years of thrilling audiences as Benji Dunn, Simon Pegg is officially saying goodbye to the Mission: Impossible franchise. The British actor, who joined the iconic action series in 2006 with Mission: Impossible III, recently opened up about his final day on set — and it was far from the explosive endings the films are known for.
In a heartfelt interview with Variety, Pegg shared that wrapping up his role in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning was a surprisingly quiet affair. “There was no huge post-stunt euphoria,” he revealed. “I think it was just me there... no cheers from the crew, hugs, tears, or even a cake.”
Instead of an epic goodbye alongside Tom Cruise or a team send-off, Pegg’s last scene was a simple one — just Benji sitting in a car. Despite the lack of fanfare, the moment carried deep emotional weight for the actor. “I felt very emotional. It was goodbye to a little family of people I’ve worked with for decades.”
Pegg emphasised how meaningful his time in the franchise has been. “The great thing about ‘Mission’ is that it’s literally been a film every few years,” he said, reflecting on the consistency and camaraderie that made his experience unforgettable.
Since joining the spy franchise nearly two decades ago, Simon Pegg’s portrayal of the brilliant and witty tech expert Benji has become a fan favourite. His character brought humour and heart to the high-stakes missions led by Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise).
As the franchise nears its end with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, fans prepare to say farewell to not just the adrenaline-fueled action, but also the beloved team members who have defined it.
