Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise has once again redefined the limits of action cinema, earning a new Guinness World Record for his jaw-dropping commitment to stunt work.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Cruise now holds the title for the “most burning parachute jumps by an individual,” clocking in an astonishing 16 fiery skydives while filming the upcoming Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes—he is an action hero,” said Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief at Guinness World Records. “A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It’s an honour to recognise his utter fearlessness.”
The daring stunts were captured during production for the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which Cruise has headlined since 1996. In a behind-the-scenes video shared by Paramount Pictures, Cruise is seen coordinating with his stunt team as he prepares to leap from a helicopter — parachute ablaze — all while staying calm and collected.
“I am going to be deploying. If this is twisted while it’s burning, I am going to be spinning and burnt,” Cruise explains in the video, emphasizing his calculated approach. “We don’t take risks… obviously,” he adds with his signature grin.
The footage then cuts to a montage of Cruise performing the heart-racing jump 16 times in rapid succession, set to the iconic Mission: Impossible theme music.
Here is the footage from Paramount Pictures:
This is hardly the first time Cruise has put his life on the line for cinematic thrills. From clinging to a plane during takeoff in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation to climbing the Burj Khalifa in Ghost Protocol, the actor’s passion for realism in filmmaking is legendary. His new record-setting stunt only reinforces his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most fearless performers.
