Sony Pictures has officially postponed the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the much-anticipated conclusion to its acclaimed animated trilogy. Originally set to swing into theaters on June 4, 2027, the film will now premiere three weeks later on June 25, 2027.
According to studio insiders speaking with Variety, the delay is a strategic move aimed at capturing the full summer break audience. While only 65% of U.S. schools would have been on vacation by the original date, 100% will be out by the new June 25 release window. Sony is also banking on a stronger global performance with the new date.
Beyond the Spider-Verse continues the story arc of Miles Morales, following the events of 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The third instalment is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.
At CinemaCon earlier this year, Lord teased fans with a glimpse of what to expect, revealing that Miles will start the film as a fugitive hunted by every spider in the multiverse. Whether Gwen Stacy and his friends can help him save his family—and himself—remains to be seen.
The returning production team includes producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh. Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg serve as executive producers, with Jessica Berri onboard as co-producer.
The previous instalment, Across the Spider-Verse, earned $690 million globally, significantly outpacing its predecessor’s $384 million haul and cementing the franchise as one of the most successful animated sagas of all time.
Fans now have a definitive date to mark on their calendars, as the multiverse saga reaches its emotional and action-packed finale in summer 2027.
