Wale Ojo (born September 9, 1964) is a celebrated British-Nigerian actor, producer, and director whose dynamic career spans over four decades. His journey began as a child actor in Nigeria, landing his first roles at age eight with the NTA Ibadan series Why Worry, before relocating to the UK at around age 12 to hone his craft. He studied Drama at the University of Hull, graduating in 1986, and subsequently performed in numerous distinguished theatre productions in the UK.
Ojo first gained critical attention in 1995 for his performance in the short film The Hard Case. He went on to deliver memorable performances in Nigerian and international productions including Phone Swap (2012), for which he won Best Actor at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards; Johnny English Reborn (2011); Half of a Yellow Sun (2013); The Guard (2011); Netflix’s Blood Sisters; BBC’s Black Earth Rising; Apple TV’s Foundation; and the Amazon Prime film Breath of Life, which earned him the 2024 AMVCA Best Actor in a Drama award.
Deeply passionate about elevating Nigerian cinema, Wale Ojo founded the New Nigeria Cinema movement, championing innovative, quality film production, which even hosted events at the British Film Institute in London.
