The last quarter of the month is usually marked by the release of Blockbusters at the cinema. This year will be no different, as the usual suspects (Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, and Ayo Makun) have already cooked. However, these three aren't the only chefs with the perfect blend of storytelling and cinematography to serve. Other movies are expected on the big screen, while some have been served. Without further delay, here's a list of movies you should consider seeing in the ember months.
Farmer's Bride is one of the best Nollywood movies you will watch this year. The epic movie tells a touching tale of love, betrayal, and the supernatural. It is set in 1980s Ibadan and was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack'enneth Opukeme. The movie featured top stars like Tobi Bakare, Femi Branch, Gbubemi Ejeye, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and a host of others. Farmer's Bride hit the cinema on September 27, and it has received positive reviews since its release.
Wumi Toriola makes her cinema debut with this movie. She builds on the success of the prequel with the same title — a recurring theme amongst this year's cinema movies. Queen Lateefah hit the cinema on September 27, featuring screen favorites like Kunle Remi, Nancy Isime, Lateef Adedimeji, Kiekie, Broda Shaggi, and Wumi Toriola herself. Viewers have lauded the movie for its incredible comedic relief and resonating life lessons.
This is another movie by a Cinema debutant, Baskemouth. The veteran has shown how great he is at comedy and music, and we can expect the same greatness from this movie. Basketmouth co-wrote the story with Victoria Eze, exploring love and the turbulence that comes with it.
Daniel Oriahi wore the director's hat on the set, and the movie is expected to hit the cinema on November 22. AGLS features rising stars and some of the best to ever do it. The cast includes Wale Ojo, Mercy Johnson, Jude Chukwuka, Victoria Eze, Basketmouth, Genoveva Umeh, and others.
Ayo Makun (AY) is set to return to the big screen on the 20th of December. The veteran film producer cum comedian teamed up with an amazing director, Toka McBaror, to deliver the anticipated Masterpiece. Expect The Waiter to provide undiluted comedic relief and entertainment. The movie is set to feature Regina Daniels, DeyemitheActor, Rahama Sadau, Shaffy Bello, and Brain Jotter, amongst others.
Following the success of her debut cinema movie, Ada Omo Daddy, Mercy Aigbe will return to the cinema again this December. This time, the veteran actress is cooking a delicacy called “Thin Line.” The details about the movie are still a bit sketchy but trust us to give you the full gist once it's available. In the meantime, anticipate its release.
Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi is set to release a new sequel in the Alakada series. The veteran actress and movie producer has already given us Alakada 1&2, Alakada Reloaded, and Fate of Alakada: The party planner. Alakada: Bad and Boujee will hit the cinema in December, ensuring Toyin remains one of the most consistent faces on the big screen every Q4. Details about the movie are expected to start rolling out in the coming weeks after the December 20th release date announcement. You can expect the finest actors on your screen when it's released. If you've watched any of the prequels in the series, you can expect something 10x funnier and better.
After the massive success of Tribe of Judah last year, Funke Akindele is back again! This time, she follows up with a new movie in her Jenifa Franchise. Everybody loves Jenifa promises lots of laughs and lessons. It is already the most anticipated movie this December, thanks to the genius PR rollouts the team has been doing. ELJ will hit the Cinema on December 13. The movie retains most of the cast from Jenifa’s Diary series while featuring new faces like Dimeji Lateef, CuteAbiola, Layi Wasabi, Mama Gee, and others. Expect a star-studded cast!
