Ini Edo is a celebrated Nigerian actress, producer and entrepreneur whose career in Nollywood began in 2000. Born Iniobong Edo Ekim on 23 April 1982 in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, she trained in Theatre Arts at the University of Uyo and later completed a bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Calabar. Over two decades, Ini Edo has become one of Nollywood’s best-known faces, appearing in hundreds of feature films and TV projects that span drama, romance, and thriller genres. Renowned for her versatility and on-screen presence, she gained wider international visibility when she produced and starred in projects that reached streaming platforms, including the Netflix release Shanty Town (2023). Beyond acting, Ini is a recognised philanthropist and advocate for girls’ empowerment. She founded GEMS (Girls Empowerment Mentorship Scheme) Africa, and has taken on public service roles, including a cultural/tourism appointment in Akwa Ibom and work with international bodies. Ini Edo has also served as a brand ambassador for major Nigerian brands and was appointed a UN-Habitat Youth Envoy, reflecting her influence both inside and outside the film industry.
