After months of speculation, it’s official: Ready or Not is getting a sequel, with star Samara Weaving and the filmmaking collective Radio Silence—comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella—reuniting for the next instalment. Searchlight Pictures, the studio behind the 2019 dark comedy horror hit, confirmed the exciting news.
The original Ready or Not—written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy—followed a newlywed bride, Grace (Weaving), who discovers that her new family’s wedding night ritual involves pulling a card from a puzzle game. When she draws the "Hide and Seek" card, Grace is thrust into a deadly, satanic game meant to fulfil an ancient pact with the devil. The film, praised for its sharp social commentary, starred Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell alongside Weaving.
Made on a modest $6 million budget, Ready or Not grossed over $28 million domestically and was Searchlight’s biggest release at the time. The film received strong critical acclaim for its mix of suspense, dark humour, and horror, continuing to build its reputation and profitability in the home entertainment market.
The sequel is in early development, with no plot details yet revealed, but Busick and Murphy are confirmed to return as writers. Producers Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt are all back, while Villella and Tara Farney will serve as executive producers.
Searchlight’s VP of production Richard Ruiz and creative executive Cornelia Burleigh will oversee the project, reporting to co-heads of production DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
The announcement came on the same night that Searchlight hosted a special screening of Ready or Not at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, with Weaving and Radio Silence in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. The film’s success has propelled Weaving and the filmmakers to new heights, with Radio Silence going on to helm the Scream franchise’s 2022 and 2023 instalments and this year’s Abigail for Universal.
