Fresh off his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. is set to reunite with Universal Pictures for the upcoming film adaptation of Julianna Baggott’s short story The Hider. While plot details remain under wraps, the project is already generating buzz with Downey Jr. tapped to star, and the writing duo Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man and the Wasp, Transformers One, and No Exit) on board to adapt the screenplay.
The project, which is still in early development, will be produced by Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell through their Team Downey banner, alongside Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures. Julianna Baggott, the original author, will serve as executive producer, with Finneas Scott co-producing.
Universal’s Executive VP of Production Development, Matt Reilly, will oversee the film for the studio. This collaboration follows Downey Jr.'s acclaimed performance in Oppenheimer, which earned him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and his Emmy-nominated turn in HBO’s The Sympathizer.
Downey Jr. continues his impressive streak of career achievements, recently making his Broadway debut in Ayad Akhtar's McNeal. At the same time, Team Downey remains active with hit projects like Netflix's Sweet Tooth and HBO’s Perry Mason.
