The official trailer for Prime Video’s upcoming action film, Heads of State, is out. The trailer features Suicide Squad stars John Cena and Idris Elba as world leaders with opposing ideals forced into an unlikely alliance by a deadly threat.
The film tells the story of a mismatched pair, US President Will Derringer (John Cena) and British Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba), two of the world’s most powerful and influential men. They clash due to conflicting ideals, thereby straining relations between their nations. Both world leaders are forced to spend time together to smooth things out. Still, their jet is attacked, sending them on an action-packed adventure where they unite and ally with MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) to stop a global conspiracy from unfolding.
The film was directed by the director of Nobody, Ilya Naishuller and co-written by Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query, featuring Jack Quaid (The Boys), Richard Coyle (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore), Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Stephen Root (Barry), and Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso) as part of the cast.
The trailer teases an action-packed adventure with comedic scenes in between, a genre Cena and Elba are no strangers to.
The film is set to debut on Prime Video on July 2.
Writer’s note:
I think the casting of John Cena and Idris Elba in their respective roles was nothing less than perfect, given their on-screen chemistry evident in their last collaboration on Suicide Squad and the experience they have working in action comedies.
