Overview
Thicker Than Water is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the complexities of family bonds and the pursuit of truth. The film follows Ese, a 28-year-old photojournalist who embarks on a journey to a sparsely furnished apartment in Ibeshe, Lagos, in search of her long-estranged sister. What begins as a simple search transforms into a harrowing investigation when Ese discovers her sister has been missing for months. The only clue: a journal chronicling her sister’s life in the apartment, revealing secrets that point toward inevitable tragedy.
Viewers’ Guide
This movie is generally suitable for most audiences, with only a few moments that may cause mild discomfort. It contains light violence, minimal profanity, and mild sexual content or nudity. There are brief scenes featuring a character holding a cigar and smoking. Some fetish-themed moments may be unsettling to viewers with particular moral or religious sensitivities. Overall, the tone remains moderate, but parental guidance is advised for younger or easily disturbed viewers.

Great Twist, Strong Acting, Minor Flaws
Thicker Than Water had a few slow moments that felt unnecessary, but overall, the storyline was engaging and the twist landed perfectly. The acting was impressive, with every character delivering solid performances that added depth to the story.
There were a few minor visual hiccups, though. Some of the movie’s set designs felt a bit artificial, like the use of synthetic leaves to mimic climbing plants on older buildings, which slightly pulled me out of the experience. Perhaps a more realistic approach could have elevated the immersion.
On the positive side, I really enjoyed the creative use of AI in some storytelling scenes. It added a fresh, visually striking layer that felt innovative and uniquely enhanced the narrative.
Overall, Thicker Than Water is worth a watch for its compelling story, strong performances, and clever visuals, even if a few details could have been executed better.
