Aituaje Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe, professionally known as Waje, is a celebrated Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress famed for her powerful three-octave vocal range and emotive performances. Born on September 1, 1981, in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, she grew up in Benin City, where her passion for music was nurtured in church choirs and recognised by the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, who supported her education.
Waje holds a degree in Social Work from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and officially launched her music career in 2007. She first rose to prominence through a guest feature on P-Square’s remake of “Omoge Mi” and their hit track “Do Me.” She also recorded notable collaborations with Banky W (“Thief My Kele”) and M.I (“One Naira”). Waje released her debut album W.A.J.E. (2013) and followed up with Red Velvet (2018), the EP Heart Season (2021), and WAJE 2.0 (2022).
Diversifying her career, she starred in the 2014 drama film Tunnel and served as a judge on The Voice Nigeria in 2016. More recently, she appeared in the 2023 Nollywood comedy miniseries She Must Be Obeyed.
Beyond her artistry, Waje is a passionate advocate for social causes. She founded “Waje’s Safe House,” supporting underprivileged children’s education, and actively partnered with Nigeria’s electoral commission (INEC) and UNICEF on civic and environmental advocacy.
