Segun Arinze is a distinguished Nigerian actor, singer, voice-over artist, and television personality, renowned for his dynamic contributions to Nollywood and the broader African entertainment industry. Born on September 24, 1965, in Onitsha, Anambra State, he hails from Badagry, Lagos State. As the eldest of seven children, Segun's upbringing was steeped in a rich cultural heritage, with his father of Yoruba descent and his mother of Igbo origin, reflecting a blend of Nigeria's diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Segun's artistic journey began in the late 1980s, initially as a singer. His debut album, Dream, marked his entry into the music scene. Although the album did not achieve significant commercial success, it paved the way for his transition into acting. He honed his craft at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, under the tutelage of esteemed mentors such as Chuck Mike and Professor Femi Osofisan.
He gained national prominence in the 1990s, particularly for his role as 'Black Arrow' in the 1996 blockbuster Silent Night, directed by the late Chico Ejiro. This role not only showcased his acting prowess but also earned him the moniker "Black Arrow," a name that has since become synonymous with his career.
Beyond his acting career, Segun Arinze has made significant contributions as a voice-over artist, lending his distinctive voice to numerous commercials and jingles. He also served as the host of the popular television game show Give and Take National Lottery and the interview-based show No Holds Barred.
