Robert Oyimemise Peters, widely recognised as Robert O. Peters, is a multifaceted Nigerian-American filmmaker, actor, and cinematographer. Born on June 6, 1973, in Sabon Gari, Kaduna State, Nigeria, he is the second of eight children. His parents, Lawrence Adagba and Comfort Peters, hail from Ososo in Edo State.
Peters began his formal education at St. Gregory Primary School in Kaduna and later attended the University of Jos, Nigeria, where he studied Geology and Mining. In 2004, he relocated to the United States to further his education and career in filmmaking.
His career in the entertainment industry commenced in Nigeria with the 1998 film Mama Sunday. He gained further recognition in 2002 with his role in the daytime series Everyday People. After moving to the U.S., Peters honed his skills in cinematography and film editing, working on various African-American productions.
Peters is perhaps best known for directing the 2014 Nollywood comedy 30 Days in Atlanta, which became the highest-grossing Nigerian film at the time. The film was also featured in the 2017 Guinness World Records alongside PK and Star Wars: The Force Awakens for its impressive domestic gross.
In addition to his directing achievements, Peters has collaborated with notable actors such as Ayo Makun, Ramsey Nouah, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Vivica Fox, and Eric Roberts, among others. His filmography includes Shades of Attraction (2015), Boxing Day (2016), and A Trip to Jamaica (2016).
Beyond his work in front of and behind the camera, Peters is a voice-over artist and the founder of Whitestone Pictures LLC, a film production studio based in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He is married to Deborah Peters, and the couple has a son, Zachary Lawrence Onafa-Orafa Peters.
