Richard Evans Mofe-Damijo (born 6 July 1961 in Aladja, Udu Kingdom, Delta State, Nigeria) is a distinguished and versatile Nigerian actor, writer, producer, lawyer, and former journalist. He studied Theatre Arts at the University of Benin before earning a Law degree from the University of Lagos in 2004.
He began his acting career in the early 1980s, first appearing in the soap opera Ripples and gaining widespread acclaim for his captivating portrayal of the villain Segun Kadiri in Checkmate. Beyond acting, RMD created and produced the film Out of Bounds (1997), showcasing his multi-faceted talent.
His exceptional performances earned him the Best Actor in a Leading Role at the inaugural Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2005, followed by a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th AMAA in 2016. In 2024, he was further honoured with the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) alongside veteran actress Iya Rainbow.
RMD has also appeared in acclaimed titles such as The Black Book (2023), where he delivered a compelling performance likened to “Nigeria’s John Wick,” and served as producer for the 2025 film Radio Voice, marking his debut as a film producer and underlining his creative and leadership prowess in the industry.
Furthermore, RMD has extended his impact beyond film, having served as Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism (2008–2009) and later Commissioner for Culture and Tourism (2009–2015) in Delta State, contributing significantly to cultural promotion and tourism development.
Married first to May Ellen ‘MEE’ Ezekiel until her passing in 1996, RMD later wed TV personality Jumobi Adegbesan; together, he is a father of five, two children with Jumobi and three from his first marriage.
