Majid Michel (born 22 September 1980 in Cantonments, Accra, Ghana) is a celebrated Ghanaian actor, model, television personality, evangelist, and humanitarian. The son of a Lebanese father and Ghanaian mother, he was raised in a large family with nine siblings, attending St. Theresa’s Primary School and later Mfantsipim School, where his passion for acting emerged through active involvement in the school’s drama club.
Starting his entertainment career as a model, Majid quickly transitioned to acting after being spotted by the Super Model Agency. His breakthrough came with the TV series Things We Do for Love, which earned him the endearing nickname “Shaker”. He then starred in his first film, Divine Love, alongside Jackie Agyemang and Van Vicker, catapulting all three into stardom in Ghana’s film industry.
Majid has since established himself as one of West Africa’s most prominent and versatile actors, known for his powerful performances in films such as Agony of the Christ (2008), Somewhere in Africa (2011), Heart of Men (2009), Crime to Christ, Slow Country (2017), and Being Mrs. Elliot (2014). His acclaimed performance earned him multiple Africa Movie Academy Awards nominations for Best Actor from 2009 to 2017, clinching the award in 2012.
Beyond the screen, Majid is a born-again Christian and evangelist, often using his platform to share his faith and philanthropic messages. He’s recognised for turning down roles that conflict with his spiritual convictions, such as those requiring on-screen romance or kissing.
