Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen is a veteran Nigerian filmmaker, director, producer and screenwriter widely recognised in Nollywood for his prolific output and storytelling rooted in Edo/Nigerian culture. Born and raised in Benin City, Imasuen studied Theatre Arts and launched a career that spans decades, directing and producing dozens of feature films across various genres, including historical drama, romance, and action. Known popularly as “De’ Guvnor of Nollywood,” he has directed notable titles such as Invasion 1897, A Private Storm, The Insider and many commercially successful Nigerian films that helped shape modern Nollywood.
Imasuen’s work combines traditional storytelling techniques with contemporary film craft, often spotlighting Benin's history, cultural heritage and social themes. He has been honoured with industry awards and recognition — including local honours connected to the Benin Kingdom — and he’s frequently cited as one of the influential figures who shaped the Nigerian film industry. Beyond directing, Imasuen runs production companies, mentors emerging filmmakers and has been involved in film festivals and initiatives to professionalise Nollywood.
