Anayo Modestus Onyekwere (born 1 March 1962), professionally known as Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK), is a veteran Nollywood actor, lawyer, author and public figure from Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. With a career that began in the early 1980s on Nigerian Television Authority productions and a screen debut in the 1992 classic Living in Bondage, Kanayo has appeared in over a hundred films and is widely recognised for powerful performances in both mainstream and critically acclaimed Nigerian cinema. He won the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2006 for Family Battle and has been honoured with national recognition (Member of the Order of the Federal Republic — MFR).
Kanayo is particularly famous for intense, villainous roles in occult-themed Nollywood films, but his range extends to drama, comedy and family films — credits include Across the Niger, Apaye, Lionheart, Up North, and Living in Bondage: Breaking Free. Beyond acting, he earned a Law degree (University of Abuja), was called to the Nigerian Bar, and has engaged in public life, including advocacy and brief political contests. Kanayo’s long-standing presence in Nollywood, award pedigree, and continued visibility on social platforms make him a high-value talent for film promotion, interviews, film festival programming, and culture-driven content on Nigerian cinema.
