Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele D’Icon, is a distinguished Nigerian actor, filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, and director with a dynamic presence in Nollywood. Born in Bariga, Lagos, on January 1, 1980, or alternatively January 21, 1980, according to some accounts, he hails from Adimula in Osun State and has roots in Ogun State as well.
His artistic journey began with the Folorunsho Adejobi theatre group in Iju Ishaga, Lagos, around 1998. By 2000, he made his Nollywood debut in the crime-themed film Dapo Tori Ti E, launching his prolific career in Yoruba-language cinema. Not just in front of the camera, Yekini has been deeply involved behind the scenes, producing and writing films like Itele, Kesari, and Lucifer, and in 2004, he made his first mark as a movie producer.
Yekini gained widespread recognition for starring in Kesari (2018), where he played the titular character, and continued to build his legacy in notable titles such as Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020), King of Thieves (2022), Jagun Jagun (2023), A Tribe Called Judah (2023), Dolapo Douglas (2024), and Lisabi (2024).
His talent has earned him multiple accolades. At the City People Entertainment Awards in 2019, Kesari won Best Movie, and he was honoured as Producer of the Year (Yoruba). He also clinched Best Actor in a Leading Role (Yoruba) at the 2019 Best of Nollywood Awards for Return of Kesari. In 2020, he took home Best Actor in a Lead Role (Yoruba) at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in Lucifer. Moreover, he was nominated in 2024 for Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Jagun Jagun.
