Dika Ofoma is a Nigerian writer, culture journalist, and award-winning independent filmmaker celebrated for his thoughtful storytelling and deep engagement with Nigerian life and culture. Born in Gombe and raised in Abuja within a multilingual household, speaking Igbo, Hausa, and English, Dika’s nuanced experience with language and identity is a hallmark of his creative voice.
He burst onto the filmmaking scene with a string of evocative short films, including The Way Things Happen (2022), A Japa Tale (2022), which explored themes of migration and heartbreak, and A Quiet Monday (2023), a powerful narrative set against the political unrest in southeastern Nigeria. His work God’s Wife (2025), dealing with grief and tradition in Igbo society, earned him the Rising Star Award at the S16 International Film Festival.
Dika’s films are rooted in cultural nuance and layered emotions, featuring characters often played by women confronting deeply human dilemmas. His storytelling is observational, intimate, and grounded in the everyday, drawing comparisons to the likes of Kiarostami, Farhadi, and the Dardenne brothers. Beyond filmmaking, he's an accomplished journalist contributing to outlets such as African Arguments, The Guardian Nigeria, and Dazed, where he writes on cinema, literature, and culture.
