The top 30 Nigerian movies to watch on Netflix with their trailers

A curated list of the best Nollywood movies that are streaming on Netflix app in 2020.

Things you should know about the existence of Netflix.

Netflix has been in existence for long, and even though it is arguably the best network to stream movies and TV shows, it has passed through some challenges in the past. Netflix is said to have been founded in August 1997 and was purely a movie rental service. Users will order for a movie on their website and will get the DVD delivered to them in their post. Netflix has now grown to be one of the world's leading entertainment platform on the internet. Today, Netflix has over 151 million paid subscribers in over 190 countries around the world.

Netflix history in Nigeria

On February 25, 2020, there was an announcement that confirmed the arrival of Netflix to Nigeria with some Netflix original series in works. The information came with a tweet from an official account titled Netflix Naija, which was created for the streaming giant network in Nigeria. The tweet contains a photo featuring notable filmmakers in the Nollywood movie industries like Mo Abudu, Richard Mofe Damijo, Banky W, Adesua Etomi Wellington, Omoni Oboli, Ramsey Nouah, Kunle Afolayan, and Kemi Adetiba amongst others.

The tweet stated, "N is for Naija. N is for Nollywood. N is the 14th alphabet. 14 is also how many great talents you're looking at. N is for Netflix. But most importantly...hello, Nigeria!"

Since then, a lot of Nigerian movies have been acquired by the network after Genevieve Nnaji’s Lionheart movie in 2018, which was the first Nollywood movie to be accepted by Netflix.

Netflix didn’t find it so hard to create a home in Nigeria as a lot welcomed the platform with open hands. Many now have the apps on their digital devices which they use to stream their favourite movies and TV shows.

With this article, I'm going to be highlighting the top 30 movies that you shouldn't miss on Netflix.
