Top 10 Movies That Will Make You Cry: 2015 till date

A subjectively compiled list of 10 emotional movies that will get audiences crying from 2015 to 2020.

Movies have the power to influence many things, particularly emotions. Some make us feel like a superhero(ask the three-year old Punk who lives close for more details), some like a villain, some like a soldier, some inspire you and motivate you to be the best version of yourself, some make you laugh hysterically, some make you smile like an idiot for more than an hour and some just make you cry like a child who accidentally dropped his freshly unwrapped lollipop in the sewers. Whatever feeling you desire, there is always a movie to help you reach the needed emotional climax. In relation to that, either you stumble on them by mistake or you are pretty deliberate about shedding actual tears, here's a list of top 10 movies that will make you cry (from 2015 till date).

10. The Florida Project (2017)

Coming in at number 10, this beautiful and touching story reveals how a little girl who has an intense connection with the Walt Disney world relates with her similarly mischievous friends and tough-looking but caring mother. A cheeky, yet thoroughly relatable movie. A must watch!

9. When They See Us (2019)

This true story aired on Netflix as a short series, reveals the struggles of the black community against a corrupt system as five young boys are forced to suffer for offences they never committed, and it forever affected their lives and their loved ones. It's a long watch, but definitely worth your time, tears and toilet paper.

8. Just Mercy (2019)

Micheal B. Jordan digs deep into his soul to bring to life once again the remarkable story of world-famous human rights activist and defense attorney, Bryan Stevenson in this touching story. This true story reflects how the A-list attorney goes against all odds in order to rescue a wrongly jailed "soon-to-be-killed" man, and the emotional disturbance created for his loved ones.

7. If Beale Street Could Talk (2018)

For a movie that bundled home an Oscar award, 108 award wins and 180 nominations, be rest assured that you won't be smiling when watching this. The story reveals the struggle of a pregnant black lady, as she needs to do all she can to prove that her man is innocent of the murder charges put up against him.

6. The Hate U give (2018)

Holding down the 6th spot is this 2018 blockbuster. Amandla Stenberg ripped out the hearts of viewers (and made many cry too), as she played the role of a teenager who chose to stand for a change after her best friend was brutally shot dead by a police officer.

5. A Dog's Purpose

This story is a dose of a balanced emotional movie diet. Its going to get you laughing, smiling and at the very least (let's say you're quite tough on the inside), your lower eye-lids laced with shiny crystals of teardrops. It's the story of a Dog that's on a quest to discover it's purpose, over several lifetimes and owners. Get in dog lovers, this one's for you!

4. Lion (2016)

This movie is so emotional, even talking about it makes you want to cry. Hey there young Sunny Pawar, you were a dynamite waiting to explode! We once again see the amazing Dev Patel after messing with our emotions in Slumdog Millionaire, as he plays the role of a grown boy, who once went through the slums of India to survive before being adopted by a family living in Australia. 25 years later, he returns to find his lost family.

Friendly advise : Use a cloth while watching this, if you don't want to have to buy so much toilet paper.

P.S: In attempt to thwart whatever disappointment building inside you, please remember that this is a subjectively-compiled list, and could affect viewers differently. Also, it's a list of top 10 movies from 2015 to 2020 that will make you cry. Honorable mentions go to movies like The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), Titanic (1997), and of course, Schindler's List (1993). That being said, next up?

3. Room (2015)

Holding down the number 3 spot is this emotional and thought-provoking sensation. Maybe a couple of us are a  little too used to seeing Brie Larson in the Captain Marvel suit, and would have a hard time believing that she could pull off such a succinctly detailed performance in this emotional drama. Thumbs up Brie, you're the boss! The movie, which was adapted from Emma Donoghue's book tells the story of a mother and her child who were trapped in a closed space for 7years, and finally got out. Simple story, aye ? Wait till you see what it does to your eyes.

2. Breakthrough (2019)

The remarkable story of John Smith. I kept wondering how a young adopted boy could house so much arrogance and ungratefulness inside, until he told his story in school while addressing his class. It wasn't arrogance, it was pain. The movie takes a more turbulent twist when he and his friends recklessly fall beneath the ice and almost drowned, leaving his family in a dilemma. Contrary to what most think, it's not just entertainment for  the Christian community, as the story was actually inspired by real life occurrences and is available for all forms of viewers. It's definitely one movie that would bring you to tears.

DRUM ROLLS...

Holding down the top spot;

1. Coco (2017)

One of pixar's greatest triumphs

Those were the words of Drew Taylor from Moviefone.

What a movie! It was so hard to keep it together when they sang "Remember me".  This movie will take you through a spectrum of emotions; from happiness to laughter, and straight into tears. The movie tells the touching story of a young wanna-be  musician who comes from a family where music is an abomination. He somehow finds himself in the land of the dead, and deeper truths about his identity begin to unravel. This flamenco-inspired movie is just a dose of everything you need, and certainly a movie that will make you shed a tear.

There you go! A list of movies that have the potential make you really emotional, and get you crying like a baby. Certainly, there are more and an incredibly vast preference level amongst viewers. Do you have that one movie that makes you cry everytime you watch it? Drop it in the comments section!
